Hey there, introduce yourself!
Hey! I’m BEKIMACHINE, London-born, West-Mids based producer & DJ.
What inspired your latest EP, ‘Pixie Dream Girl’?
I really wanted to try making some techno music. I’d been playing a lot of Amelie Lens, CAIVA and other techno artists in my sets, and thought it would be fun to give it a go. I ended up being drawn to more melodic, trancey synths and ended up including these in my tracks, so the EP itself ended up a combination of hard techno, trance and hard dance.
You stream on twitch regularly, what’s it like chatting with fans?
I love streaming on Twitch and chatting with my community! We play games, jam to DJ sets and generally have a laugh. They have always been so supportive of my music, and I feel really lucky to have such a tight-knit community there.
What’s your favourite song you’ve released to date?
I think my favourite has to be Pixie Dream Girl! I’m really proud of the mix and the feeling the song gives.
What’s your favourite Christmas song?
The Pogues - Fairytale of New York holds a special place in my heart.
What is something that makes your music stand out?
I’ve been told by multiple people that I have a certain “style” to my tracks, that when they hear one they’ll be like “I can tell this is BEKIMACHINE.” I have no idea what it is, but I’ve taken it as a huge compliment!
Who is your favourite singer?
HANA, she is AMAZING!
What’s your favourite snack?
I love dates, and also greek yoghurt, raspberries and maple syrup - yum!
What was your favourite family holiday?
Me and my Mum went to Rome last year, it was lovely!
Where do you see yourself five years from now?
I never really think that far ahead, but I imagine DJing and producing still. A dream of mine would be to play a set at HÖR BERLIN.
Your new EP goes in a completely different direction to your past work, what motivated the change?
I used to perform my tracks live, singing, playing flute, but I don’t do that as much anymore, and wanted to produce tracks I could play in my DJ sets. I’ve been dabbling in melodic techno, peak-time techno, and thought it was time to try making some harder dance/techno music!
Can you ski or snowboard?
I have been skiing a couple of times and loved it! I would love to do it again sometime.
What was it like hearing your song on BBC Radio 1?
Unreal! I was so amazed that they chose my song to play. It was a huge milestone for me, as I’ve been really focusing on improving my songwriting, production and mixing skill this year. For them to play it on BBC Radio 1, felt to me that my song had met that high quality bar.
What’s the craziest gift you’ve ever received from somebody for Christmas?
I don’t think I’ve ever received a crazy gift before!
What’s your favourite EDM album of 2024?
That’s a tough question as I don’t think many of my fav producers have released albums this year! A few of my fav EP/single releases this year is AISHA's ‘First Kiss EP’ and KI/KI’s ‘Don’t You Want Me’ remix! I’m really excited for Mha Iri’s ‘Leader of the Pack’ EP as well.
Do you enjoy the cold weather?
It’s okay but I prefer the sunshine!
What can we expect to see from you in the future?
I’m planning on releasing more music and playing more shows in 2025, so watch this space!
