"Cigarettes and Alcohol, I could smell you down the hall", Sky Dxddy kicks off her song on a powerful note. "Hate Me" is a song from her upcoming Deluxe Version of her debut album TRAUMACORE, which releases on May 15. Her music is known for emotionally raw storytelling, especially the discussion of themes like trauma survival and empowerment.

The song starts with an instrumental that gradually grows louder, with some raw vocals expressing a sad note. The melody is intense, involving electric sounds and hints of rock, which mirror the lyrics and express a build-up of anger. As the song progresses, the melody gets louder and heavier. Vocally, SkyDxddy starts off soft and ends in a very edgy, loud tone. At one point, she whispers, giving listeners pure goosebumps. This moment reflects her suppression before the actual breakthrough, similar to what she explores in the lyrics.

One of her strongest lines in the song is "You broke me down and stole my innocence," explaining the realization of what a toxic relationship has done to you. The melody intensifies it and builds up along with her lyrics. That line in particular describes the feeling of being robbed, after giving everything in a relationship that mattered. She continues with "You say I'd never get out, but I did," marking the act of rebellion. In her chorus, she sings "You hate that you can't control me," showing the reaction of the other person when you choose yourself and your safety over them. This simple yet relatable line connects the listener easily to the song. She continues to explore violence, hate, and liberation, ending the song on a strong note with "You say that you're gonna save me, but you fucking hate me."

The song portrays the process of realizing how toxic a relationship can be and how much power it takes to escape it. "Hate Me" doesn't just explore any toxic relationship; it talks about domestic violence, which is clear in the line "Held me down and called it love," referencing both physical and psychological violence.

On a deeper level, the song is also about regaining your power after the damage of a destructive environment. SkyDxddy says herself, "'Hate Me' is about taking your power back when you realize you don’t owe anyone softness anymore. It’s the moment you stop trying to be palatable for people who were never going to understand you in the first place." Even outside of a relationship, realizing the reality of the environment you live in and finding the strength to leave it, is one of the hardest steps to take. SkyDxddy captures that struggle and the moment where you reclaim yourself while facing the reactions of those who tried to hold you back. You see their hatred, but you rebel anyway.
