We didn’t ‘‘distance‘‘ ourselves from zoe fengari
Zoe Fengari performs ‘‘An Meine Depression‘‘ at Industrie45, Baar, Switzerland
Founder/Editor Tarun had the pleasure of being able to see Zoe Fengari live in may 2025. They had a quick chat before the show!
Introduce Yourself!
Hi! I’m Zoe Fengari and I’m 19 years old. I’ve been making music since I was seven, which is also when I started learning the piano. I’m currently studying at a vocational school.
Tell us about “Zigarettenrauch”!
Zigarettenrauch is about a toxic relationship I was in, where I felt like a drug he was addicted to.
What helps you the most to get out of a bad state of mind?
Definitely music! I write about anything, from the things that bother me to day-to-day life. I just like putting my mind to paper in general.
What’s your favourite way to start a song?
I just pick up the guitar. Most of the time, when I start a song, I don’t know what it’s about. I just let my mind work its magic.
Comparing your 3 songs out at the moment, which is your favourite?
“An Meine Depression“ is like my baby. It was so important for me to release it. But I think I listen to “Abstand” the most. What I love about “Zigarettenrauch” is that so many people can relate to it.
Have you got any unreleased tracks you can tell us about?
Sooo many! There are songs about my dad, who passed away, and about the relationship I sing about in “Zigarettenrauch”. I think I’ll release “Strandbar” next, or “500g”. What are they about? You’ll have to see. Maybe one of them will be out before this magazine is printed.
Do you plan on making music in English soon?
I have written some English songs, and I think it’s possible that I’ll end up releasing them one day.
On the topic of English, who’s your favourite British singer?
Lola Young, for sure! I absolutely love “One Thing.” And you?
Honestly, the same here, or Caity Baser. I feel like British pop singers at the moment are at such a peak of rage, and both of them really encapsulate it. Back to you — tell us how you produce your songs!
“An Meine Depression” was made in a professional studio, but the other songs out right now were made in my room with a microphone and my laptop.
Tell me a fun fact about yourself!
I’m probably the only musician who can’t whistle or click my fingers.
What song are you most excited to perform?
“Strandbar” or “Zigarettenrauch”.
Why?
“Strandbar” because I like the melody and “Zigarettenrauch” because it’s my new song and I can’t wait to see people’s reactions.
What inspired you to pursue music?
The fact that I started playing the piano when I was seven helped me create a strong connection to music. I started writing songs because I didn’t know where to release all the emotions I had when I was around 13.
What’s your favourite school subject?
It’s psychology.
Who’s your favourite artist we’ve ever worked with?
Nucya! She’s performing after me tonight too, and we’re actually in the same class.
When can we expect your next track?
Very soon! Like in a couple of months. I just wanna let “Zigarettenrauch” marinate at the moment.
What’s your favourite song released this week (23.05.25)?
Either “Good Girls” by Josie Edwards or “Pilot” by Yasola, a German song.
What’s your favourite mountain?
Raten. It’s the highest mountain pass in Zug, Switzerland.
What can fans expect from tonight’s show?
They can expect emotional lyrics and a very nervous me, haha.
Any final comments?
I feel such a big passion when I make music, and I hope people hear that in my lyrics. I just wanna be the safe space I needed when I was at my lowest.
