Currently in the middle of the North American leg of her ‘‘MISS POSESSIVE WORLD TOUR’’, and fresh off her collaboration with F1®, global pop sensation Tate McRae has just released brand new single ‘‘TIT FOR TAT‘‘. Having previously achieved over 10.7 billion streams and several Top 40 hits in her career, she has received countless awards, including ‘Artist of the Year’ at the 2024 JUNO Awards, nominations for three MTV VMAs, two Billboard Music Awards, several People's Choice Awards and iHeartRadio Music Awards. She was featured on Forbes' 2021 ‘30 Under 30’ list, where she was the youngest musician on the list.

On her latest track, McRae takes on the messy aftermath of a relationship that was anything but healthy. She captures that blur confusion that comes after it all falls apart, that we all know too well and she pairs it with the sharp moment when someone’s true colors finally come through. The mood is clear right from the first lyric: “Thought I might love you again, I’ll see how I feel / Now that you’re acting like that, boy, I never will / Last night, she answered my call, it sealed the deal / Right now, I’m not even about you.”

The chorus keeps circling back on itself (which is a good thing!!), making it clear she’s done. That “answered call” confirmed her suspicions and it points to someone else being in the mix, and suddenly, the truth isn’t so hard to see.

Tate also doesn’t shy away from the sting of betrayal. In one of the most striking lines, she sings: “I was nothing but respectful and you know that / Why you changing up the narrative to write?” Which I find hits especially hard when you know the other person ‘‘knows love’’ .

She’s not raging; she’s just done

‘‘TIT FOR TAT’’ is not a breakup anthem. It’s the closure Tate always needed
